A trail marathon and half marathon run on high-quality single-track that the organisers describe as gently rolling. Runners completing both races over the weekend are classed as Double Down entrants. Trail shoes are advised and finishing times run well behind equivalent road times.

The Backside Trail Marathon and Half, organized by Quest Outdoors, runs through Cherokee Park the day after Louisville's mini marathon on the roads. The single-track trails run through one of the original parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, and runners who complete both races over the weekend are classed as Double Down entrants.
