Course
Loop courses with short out and back sections, starting and finishing in front of Joni's Beach a few blocks from the La Pointe ferry landing. The surface is mostly paved road with roughly three to four miles of gravel road. Aid stations every two to three miles carry water and Gatorade, and a seven hour limit applies.

The Madeline Island Marathon and Half Marathon is held on the scenic rural island in the Apostle Islands of Wisconsin. The USATF-certified courses are mostly paved with sections of packed gravel, featuring loop formats with out-and-back portions, and the full marathon qualifies for Boston.
