Course
Starts and finishes at Gould Reserve on The Strand, Takapuna, following the North Shore coastline past Milford Reserve, Narrow Neck and Cheltenham Beach with a circuit of Maungauika/North Head. Mostly sealed footpath and coastal walkway with a number of short off-road sections; runners are held to the footpath and inside the cones.

The North Shore Marathon evolved from the original North Shore City Half Marathon, part of the RUN Auckland Series, into a standalone event. Held annually, usually on the first Sunday of September but tide dependent, it often marks the start of spring and Father's Day. One of New Zealand's most scenic courses, it follows the North Shore coastline along Milford, Takapuna and Cheltenham Beaches, with a circuit around Maungauika/Historic North Head.
