The Otawara Marathon follows a bowl-shaped course through Tochigi Prefecture, starting near Mihara Park Athletic Stadium, descending to its lowest point around 25km, then climbing back into the cold 'Nasu Oroshi' wind off the Nasu highlands. The marathon and 10km finish in central Otawara, with about 90 metres separating the course's highest and lowest points.
