Course
The routes run on the Alpine Loop jeep roads through the San Juan Mountains, passing the ghost mining towns of Howardsville, Eureka, Animas Forks and Gladstone. Start and finish are at Silverton Memorial Park, with a high point of 12,930 feet at California Pass. The 8 miler is an out and back to Howardsville. The organiser describes the surface as jeep road rather than singletrack or paved road.
