About

The Spartathlon is a historical ultramarathon that takes place in Greece at the end of September every year. It is one of the most difficult ultramarathons in the world and is of great interest due to its historical background. The Spartathlon revives the steps of Pheidippides, an ancient Athenian long-distance runner who, in 490 BC, was sent to Sparta to ask for help in the war against the Persians.

A confirmed date shows its day; a provisional one shows only its month, because we won't claim a day we don't have. This page is rebuilt every night from the RunCalendar catalogue.
