Course
A point-to-point climb up the historic Bartram Trail, starting on Main Street in Franklin outside Outdoor 76 at 8am and rising almost relentlessly to the Wayah Bald summit, where the 25K finishes. The 50K circles the peak and returns down the same trail to town. Aid sits at Wallace Branch (mile 3.5), Harrison Gap (mile 9) and the Wayah Bald summit (mile 14.5), with further stations for the 50K, carrying water, electrolyte, fruit and bars.

The Naturalist is a trail race held near Franklin, North Carolina, in the mountains of the western part of the state. Runners choose the 25K or 50K distance on forest trails in the southern Appalachians.
