Course
A hilly half marathon starting and finishing at South Germantown Recreational Park (Maryland SoccerPlex) in Boyds, run in midsummer DC-area heat and not recommended as a first half. Water, Gatorade and ice every two to three miles plus at the start and finish, and popsicles near the turnaround around miles 8-9. A 15-minute-per-mile minimum pace is required by permit.

Riley's Rumble starts where Seneca Creek meets the Potomac River in upper Montgomery County, following the C&O Canal Towpath out and back toward Riverbend Park. Despite some rolling terrain, the course is officially classified fast and flat, drawing 500-plus runners each July as a tune-up for fall marathons.
